Food - History - Scenery

Spring in the Marche is generally mild, giving rise to fields of poppies and blossoms. The summer months are hot, especially in July and August, although there is always a refreshing sea breeze and the cooling air of the mountains and lakes. The summer months in the Marche have an almost tropical feel and you can often still swim in the sea in late September. In winter there is often snow, providing the perfect opportunity to ski or snowboard in the nearby Sibylline mountains.

The floral symbol of the Marche is undoubtedly the sunflower, which fills the countryside in the summer months. In spring, the yellow Mediterranean broom flower covers the hills, along with the almond and cherry blossoms. In late spring in the mountain meadows you can discover many wild flowers including orchids, hop hornbeam and the Apennine edelweiss. Throughout the summer, trees flourish with peaches and exotic fruit such as caco (persimmon). In autumn, you can see strawberry trees and witness the olive and grape harvests.

As well as 1,800 different floral species, the Sibillini National Park is also home to many wild animals including wolves, wild cats, porcupines and roe deer. You can also see various birds of prey such as the royal eagle, the peregrine falcon and the sparrow hawk.
