On a vast fertile plain, over 1,400 metres above sea level, lies one of the most beautiful natural sights in Italy. Stretching out for almost ten kilometres is the spectacular "Piano Grande" or "Great Plain" covered every year in June and July in a rainbow of flowers. The only witness to this marvellous sight is the lone village of Castelluccio, standing on a rock, famous for its production of lentils. The lentil harvest is celebrated each year with a festival in late summer. This small corner of Italy, indeed the "Little Tibet of Italy" as it is often known, is incredibly peaceful, with often the only sound being the church bell in Castelluccio. In bad weather the bell rings until all the village's inhabitants are back home safely.

We are offering both 4 night and weekly holidays with daily tours of the region. You will be able to discover not only this ethereal great plain, but also other natural gems of the Marche, including the Monte Conero National Park with its turquoise waters and majestic rocks, and the Grotte di Frasassi, a fascinating formation of limestone caves.

TRY THE INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE OF PARAGLIDING OR HANDGLIDING OVER THE GREAT PLAIN

During the holiday, we are also offering the opportunity to try out the amazing experience of paragliding or handgliding over the Great Plain of Castelluccio. The Prodelta school of Castelluccio, founded in 1976, offers the chance to go on a two-seater flight over the Plain, piloted by an expert using the very best equipment.

For a 2-seater Paraglider flight, taking off from a level of 300-500 metres: 35 pounds sterling

Take-off from a higher level and longer flight: 41 pounds sterling

For a 2-seater Hang-glider flight, taking off from a level of 300-500 metres: 45 pounds sterling
